Subject: Blogging Is Beneficial
Date: December 6, 2010
Dear Mr. Florence,
Your frustration with the blogging system seems to be the ease and quantity of negative feedback. This reluctance is understandable; however, opening yourself and the company up for criticism in this manner can prove extremely beneficial in the long run.
As you already noted, much of the feedback on blogs is positive. The same will be true for you and your corporate communications in a blogging medium. Positive comments from loyal customers and investors are readily available and easy to both post and access from a corporate standpoint. Those with positive feedback will love the easy, painless way to comment and provide valuable commentary straight to corporate employees.
Of course negative comments will be posted, but these can be beneficial too. Not everyone can possibly be satisfied at the same time, and stifling the voices of concerned parties will not improve the relationship between corporate and potential customers and stakeholders within the business. While they might not be on board with the current proposal, they do respect you as an executive and the company as a whole; otherwise they would not provide feedback.
The best way to deal with negative feedback is to not worry about it too much, but instead respond in a calm, thoughtful manner whilst taking their concerns seriously. Blog readers and responders will all have valid thoughts and comments, good and bad. They might not always say what you want to hear, but their input is still quite valuable and necessary for the longevity of this company. Blogging opens an easy path of communication for praise and criticism, and you would be very wise to take advantage of it.
Sincerely,
Danielle DeWitt
