I think that it is good to have mail on Saturdays due to the fact that not everyone can or has access to the internet. I know that you can go to a library or pay over the phone but what about the elder who may not be able to drive or can't leave the house. If you are poor and can't afford to buy a computer or phone its hard to pay bills online or by phone.
Another reason we shouldn't get rid of mail on Saturdays is because sometimes mail gets delayed and you get it a couple days late, so having mail on Saturday helps out. If we cut mail on Saturdays we are cutting a lot of people's job and means of living. Also if you are trying to mail things that might take a couple days due to the different cities or states you are mailing it to it might take longer and not get there til the weekend so having a Saturday deliver would be good.
If you had a really important package or piece of mail that you are waiting for and it came in on Saturday and you couldn't get it until Monday it might cause problems. How would you like to be waiting on a check and could of received it Saturday but because the post office is closed you have to wait until Monday than that could mean no money for groceries for your family.I think the USPS is a big business that many people rely on just like doctors offices. If doctors can come in on Saturdays to help out the sick, why can't the USPS stay open on Saturdays to help out people.
I use to work at Quiktrip and they didn't close for anything. Not for Christmas, thanksgiving, or Easter. There was not a day out of the 3 years I worked there that we closed. We even had lost power one day and didn't close, we had to do everything manually. Do you know how many customers they would make mad if we did decide to close. People rely on Quiktrip for their last minute needs on days such as Christmas.
In conclusion, I think we need mail services on Saturday more than people realize. Also I don't think people realize how many people rely on it. Like all the international students I live. They receive a ton of mail from their families back home.
