Women’s public sexuality should be no different than a man’s, regardless if it is in relation to business, politics or otherwise. This is something that has slowly evolved and will continue to change over time. The internet has made many items available with the only a few clicks. With even a limited amount of online searching knowledge, incriminating pictures, stories or videos can be found of nearly any political figure.
Social networking has made it acceptable to show racy pictures online. The youth that are sharing these pictures today will be leading our country in the future. Our Great-Great-Grandparents thought that women should not be allowed to vote; today’s society says it is perfectly normal. Looking back at President Clinton only 10 years ago, he was ridiculed for smoking marijuana but not inhaling. President Obama has openly spoken about his previous use of marijuana but it was not made into the same scandal that President Clinton dealt with.
Krystal Ball decided to acknowledge what she did and not back down. She is a Democrat running in a Republican state and is not likely she would have won the race. Now that attention has been brought to her name, she may get more votes. Had Ball not stood up for herself, someone else eventually would.
My prediction is now that this topic has been addressed in the media, the next candidate with racy pictures during elections will not be ridiculed the same way as Ball. She has set the bar and everyone else will follow.
